Add Italian design, German power and Dutch craziness, and you get this
One look at the Spyker C12 Zagato and you know why they call the Dutch crazy. This limited edition run of 24 cars was built to celebrate Spyker’s entry into Formula One, and the company roped in its F1 driver Adrian Sutil to pulls the wraps off the Zagato. If it looks, well, odd in the pictures, under the glare of Geneva’s show lights, the Zagato looked even odder.
It’s been a busy week for Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezmolo. First he announced his resignation (effective from October) from the Italian sports car firm after 23 years at the helm. Then he proclaimed record financial results for Ferrari for the first six months of 2014 (£101.4 million profit) before declaring a special Ferrari model will be unveiled in October to celebrate 60 years of the Prancing Horse in America.
In 1962, Mercedes-Benz launched a research program to investigate the development of the Wankel rotary engine and its potential both on the road and track. While the early mule wasn't a looker, the prototype's design continued to evolve until a public unveiling of the C111-I concept, designed by Bruno Sacco, at the 1969 Frankfurt motor show. The coupé may have looked like the systematic further development of the Sport Light models from the ‘50s with its gullwing doors, but it wasn't a design study for a new SL.
